Why didn’t I think of that first?

The music industry is experiencing some trouble lately. People are downloading mass amounts of music as opposed to buying or legally download it. The music that is available for legal download is mostly not lossless. Not only that, but most online stores (iTunes for example) use DRM, which basically results in me not having control over my own music. It isn’t really the store who’s to blame but the record companies. Read Thoughts on Music by Steve Jobs. Today, however, I read an article on techcrunch about a new company called Amie Street. They thought of a new method/business model of distributing music: the files are DRM free, first downloads are free and the price increases after that. The highest possible price for a song is $.98. At the moment the site is down, it got a lot of traffic from Digg.com but I would love to check them out. The only reason I would not buy there is the fact that the music isn’t lossless but in mp3 format.

Lossless is coming soon.

And here comes the old query: Why pay for something that you can get for free?
- To support the artists? some songs are just OK, some artists will never be famous if the people wouldn’t download the songs from illegal websites.

I agree that the music industry is getting massively attacked from this but isnt it time that the production companies and the redistribution companies make something, a new way of distributing songs and promoting them on really low cost?

- Give me a reason to pay for my music…..

peace out.
