Safari for Windows? A Few Thoughts
If you are reading this blog, chances are that you know Apple released their browser for the Windows crowd and you probably have a copy of Safari on your Windows machine already. Smart move? I think so. The more Apple products you use on Windows, the easier it will be to adapt to OSX if you decide to switch. When you decide to get a Mac instead of a Windows machine, many of the applications you are used to on Windows will be available on Mac already.
But that is hardly as important as the fact that the iPhone will be bundled with Safari. Safari acts as a kind of development platfrom for the iPhone. Developers won’t need to invest in a Mac, instead they will only need to get Safari in order for them to be able to develop for the iPhone.

Well once I get all the mac software on the PC, I’m not going to need to get a mac anymore =)…
but I understand that Safari can be a ‘bridge’ for people to get to OS X, but I think they are going to need a bit better bridge than Safari.
Firefox is slowly taking market share from IE, but it sure is taking a huge effort.
Firefox is hands-down a better browser compared to IE, but not enough people know about FFox.
And I might be wrong, but I am betting that 80% of the people that are actually aware of ‘Safari for Windows’ are Firefox users, meaning Safari has to compete not with IE, but with Firefox.

Totally agree with you, but I really think the true reason why it is being released is because of the iPhone.

There is a big difference which not many people know but is quite essential. UNIX! Futhermore about the safari release for WIndows: The new deelopements Silverline (MS) and AIR or Appollo (adobe), i heard a rumour that Adobe pressed apple to release Safari for windows. The next platform will not be Windows or Mac but what browser you run…
Peter Says:
Definitely agree with you on that Michiel. Browser wars 2.0!
