Indexing the world

As the amount of information we see daily increases, so does the need to index and record it. A new startup, freebase is trying to do just that. Came accross them via a Techcrunch article. Licensing is achieved through Creative Commons Attribution, freeing yourself from “restrictive corporate licenses”. Very interesting concept, in my opinion. It does sound a bit famiar to what google is doing though, as rightly mentioned on Techcrunch, with the difference that freebase is largely user contributed.

This is an interesting concept. I hate the name, though. Freebase?

Well, I think the name is just right, very self explanatory and the “free” part doesn’t hurt either.
