Computer Says No…

One if the reason’s I have been so terrible at blogging for the past months was that I am doing two jobs at the Hogeschool of Rotterdam (HRO), one as assistant researcher for a the Knowledge Institute (Kennis Kring in Dutch) and another as a so-called Peer Coach for two 1st year Interaction Design classes, which more or less boils down to me taking a look at their work for the subject Interaction Design and being lecturers assistant.

This poses a problem for the HRO though, their Human Resources system is incapable of processing two functions. As far as I can gather it isn’t their policy not to hire someone for more than two functions, it is just that the Computer Says No…

It is just another classic example of how technology is not making our lives easier, the opposite is actually happening. I am forced to get this sorted by going through all sorts of other channels.

For those among you who don’t know the phrase “Computer Says No”, it comes from the show Little Britain by Matt Lucas and David Walliams:

Please note: the point of this post is not to criticize the administration of the HRO, but rather to illustrate a point, namely that sometimes we have turned into slaves of technology and not the other way around.
