Adobe Installer
In the first of a series of articles regarding strange/bad interaction practices I come across I want to take a look a the Adobe CS3 uninstaller. Granted, this product was still in it’s beta stages during the time I used it, I still think it is worth it to take a closer look.
The first strange thing is that the uninstaller allows you to reinstall the program as well as uninstall it. This might be a handy option, but how many people actually reinstall a program via the uninstaller? This is probably not Adobe’s fault and is not a big issue anyway.

However, what is extremely annoying is the fact that I have to select every single component that I want to uninstall. Why not just have a “select all” check box, like they have for “Remove All Application Preferences”. It would make the unistall process so much easier.

A select all option would indeed make the process easier. But this will also improve the chance that a user makes a mistake. Computer savvy users like you and me wouldn’t make a mistake quickly because we know that ImageReady and Photoshop both are Adobe applications. But less savvy users don’t. They would perhaps uninstall applications that they didn’t want to uninstall.
Although a non prominent, by default unchecked, with confirmation message, checkbox would be the best solution

Well, I somehow doubt that Photoshop CS3 Beta testers are not familiar with at least some of Adobe’s applications. I doubt that they would make a mistake so easily as you are suggesting, however, it is a possibility.
